У коал, независимо от размера туловища, длина слепой кишки составляет 185 см, поэтому они занимают второе место по длине этого органа среди млекопитающих после мадагаскарской руконожки, или ай-ай, Daubentonia madagascariensis. Если рассматривать длину слепой кишки по отношению к массе тела, ай-ай возглавляет список с коэффициентом 46, за ней следует сахарная сумчатая летяга с показателем 15,7 и коала с показателем 9,8.
